Checking out a lot of junk just to publish today I spotted a great deal of neat stuff on the internet. This particular write-up is undoubtedly just among the many I will be writing regarding speaker wire inside the next 3 days. I am attempting to have the webpage kept up to date more often than I have been previously. Let me know what you think in regards to this write-up and also what you would like to see about speaker wire in the future.
Does Expensive Speaker Wire Make Any Difference In Sound?
Some audiophiles swear by premium speaker wire, while some others think they are a rip off. The argument has lasted for decades and still, there is no consensus.
Several double blind tests have been made over the years comparing expensive wires and regular lamp cord. In almost all cases, people were not able to tell the difference. Case closed right? No quite. The expensive wire supporters counter that most people are not audiophiles, and since most of them couldn’t even tell the difference between a CD and an MP3, how could they notice subtle differences in sound?
So who’s right? Perhaps it doesn’t matter. Consider this: premium speaker cable can cost up to one hundred dollars a foot! If you need 10 feet of cable for each speaker, that’s 2000 dollars worth of wire. In my case, I would be spending more on the cable than I spent on my entire sound system. In fact, the cable would be the most valuable thing in my house.
I understand though, that if you’ve spent 20,000 dollars in the finest audio equipment available, you’d feel kind of silly hooking it up with regular hardware store lamp cord. You’d feel a certain security investing in the finest cable available. And who knows, maybe it does make a difference.
If however, you are like me and would rather enjoy the music than the sound, stick to the cheap stuff. You will acheive the same production of sound without the killer cost. And if you are still unsure, invite a few friends over to get their opinion, chances are that they won’t be able to discern any difference in tone or dynamics.

This shows an electronic pulse motor using a roll of ‘off the shelf’ speaker wire for the bifilar coil. It is a simple way to make an electronic trigger style circuit without having to wind a special coil. The circuit used here will self-oscillate with no magnet if you want and demostrates a strong back spike effect.

Question by Ed A: What causes the nightly 9pm beep on my speaker?
O.K., I know this sounds crazy, but here’s what happens. I have a surround sound system, with wired “surround” speakers (i.e., they are not wireless). These are the speakers behind the listener. It’s a Sony AV system, STR-K700 model. Every night, even if the system is off, the left surround speaker (these speakers are flush with the ceiling) gives off a very brief (< 1 second duration), sharp, high pitched beep at about 9 pm. It's not at exactly the same time every night, maybe up to 5 minutes before 9, never after nine. This is not a problem, but it's a phenomenon I cannot explain. Any clue to what might be the cause?
I thought it might be the cell phone, because two nights ago we made sure they were turned off, and didn't hear the beep. However last night with all the cells off a minute before 9 pm we heard the beep. I have Direct TV and the DTV box sits right on top of the AV system. Maybe that's it?

Is your cell phone turned on and near the speakers? You might be hearing your cell phone reporting in to the network. Try turning it off one night and see whether the sound goes away.
