Question by Nicole: My computer has no sound! Under “Control Panel” “Sounds and Audio Devices” it says “No Audio Device”
Alright, I’ll start from the beginning. A while ago my computer crashed and coudn’t even load to my desktop anymore. It took a while to fix but I did. Everything was working perfectly normal (including sound). About 2 weeks later my sound stopped working. I don’t know why, but now under “Sounds and Audio Devices” it says “No Audio Device”. Under the “Audio” tab under “Sound Playback” it says “No Playback Devices”. But the funny thing is that I do have an audio device; Realtek AC’97 Audio for VIA [R] Audio Controller. And for some reason, MIDI files still seem to play perfectly. I’ve tried everything I can to get it working again.

Here’s some details about my system and the sound devices:
System: Microsoft Windows XP: Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
Compaq: Presario
Name: Realtek AC’97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller
Manufacturer: Realtek
Driver Version: 5.10.0.5730
Device Status: This device is enabled and working properly.
Status: OK

Thanks in advance! :)

You will need to find a sound driver that matches your system and run the cd,this will install a sound driver and your computer will then be able to reconize your sound system that is all ready installed. What’s missing is the driver.
