*** cusd.cornell.edu *** This video demonstrates the construction of a Home Theater Computer. It was built by myself and other members of Cornell University’s Solar Decathlon Engineering Controls Team. The computer utilizes a Core 2 Duo Processor at 3.0 GHz, a 128GB Solid-State Hard Drive, and a GeForce 9300 GPU included in its Nvidia 730i chipset. It will be served media content from a home server. This computer was built with the following design goals in mind: EFFICIENT POWER USAGE: Accomplished by using a low wattage CPU, A Solid State Hard Drive, an 80+ Certified PSU, and a motherboard with energy saving features. EXTREMELY QUIET: Utilizes a Solid State Drive to eliminate hard drive vibrations, 2 silent 120mm fans, and an efficient case structure. HD EXPERIENCE: Integrated GPU provides HDMI HDCP-enabled video output at full HD resolution, while reducing heat and power consumption because of the lack of video card, Gigibit Ethernet enables streaming of content from the house’s multimedia home server, 3GHz CPU provides ample headroom for video decoding. This HTPC will be used in Cornell University’s Solar Decathlon competition in October 2009. Question by Simply_kris: Home theatre return policy – BB/CC?
Hi All:
Am planning to invest in a bose 321 / cinemate – to decide am planning to try them out one by one – why cinemate? cos am planning to buy a upscale DVD player, so i think investing in a 321 will result in having an xtra dvd player. Sales pp at CC and best buy told me that there is no restocking fees on home theatre systems – but their online return policy kind of make me doubt the statement(it says 25% re-stocking on appliances/special order applicances(BB) /home theatre “seating(CC)).Am confused -is there a catch in what the sales ppl told me. Please help me –

Thanks in advance.

I don’t see an inconsistency. It sounds like normal items have no restocking fee, but special order stuff (the items listed are special appliances and HT SEATING) does. If you buy online or in a store and return you won’t have a fee.

That said, think hard before buying Bose systems — they are mediocre performers at very high price for what you get. You can do much better for less money. See 1st link re Bose and 2nd re some options.

Furthermore many of their systems use prorietary connectors that make future adaption or replacement of components difficult, and they are typically very light on connectivity.
